Ottoman Land Registration Law
In 1858 the Ottoman Empire enacted the Tapu Law, allowing people to register as owners of land in Arab provinces. For a variety of reasons, most farmers chose not to register and Ottoman and Arab elites became owners of vast amounts of territory. This became an important factor in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
